The Plants at Work Industry Awards in Interior Landscape Excellence are designed to recognise and reward quality and workmanship and create a benchmark of excellence in the industry. They identify the teams and individuals that are performing their functions to the highest possible standards for their clients.
Nuffield Health’s Head Office in Epsom is a 40,000 sq ft workplace designed with complete focus on employee wellbeing, including a juice bar to start the day, a relaxing library area, and an on-site gym. The office design embraces an agile working model where space is fully optimised, with dynamic work settings that provide staff with a choice of environments they can choose to work from. It encapsulates Nuffield Health’s people and wellbeing-focused philosophies whilst also reflecting its willingness to embrace new technologies and new ways of working.
The client’s interior planting design brief was to re-invigorate and revive the space for employees returning to office working following the COVID-19 pandemic and bring it back to life, with key objectives of embracing wellbeing and utilising the positive effects of live planting. All units proposed had to consider and capture the company’s CARE values – Connected, Aspirational, Responsive and Ethical – in their shape, colour and planting choices.
Tivoli’s design proposal included introducing floor standing displays to soften workspaces and collaborative areas; replanting existing units with bolder and brighter flower and foliage choices; zoning wellbeing spaces from walkways; and matching plant choices with light conditions to ensure longevity and encourage healthy growth. Trying to provide an established planting look and feel in the variety of planter shapes and sizes meant the team had to be creative with plant variations, and choose plants with bright and lush foliage while being conscious of root ball size and space.
Nuffield Health had a very specific brief to bring life back into the office and revive the look and feel, with specific focus on the wellbeing of its employees and visitors and the benefits that indoor plants can bring. The cultural fit and Tivoli’s alignment with these values were a key element of delivering this award-winning project.
